Expedition Date: January

Location: Kaleidoscope

Expedition Description: Bermuda, the Atlantic Slave Trade & the Brig Enterprise at Kaleidoscope

Step into an important part of Bermuda’s history with this meaningful, hands-on learning experience at Kaleidoscope Arts Foundation. This expedition invites P5 students to explore Bermuda’s connection to the Atlantic Slave Trade, including the powerful story of the Brig Enterprise and its role within the wider African diaspora. Through guided discussion, historical exploration, and creative artmaking, students engage thoughtfully with the past and express their understanding through purposeful visual responses. Pupils reflect on history through the powerful sculpture We Arrive and express their learning by creating their own symbolic figures.

Vocabulary Voyage

The P5 Emancipation thematic unit is built around the mentor text Henry’s Freedom Box, by Ellen Levine, supporting ELA curriculum-aligned literacy learning alongside an experiential school visit with AgraLiving as part of the Horizons Programme.

The Vocabulary Voyage offers a set of optional resources designed to enrich language learning in an engaging and practical way. Three short, flexible vocabulary activities encourage pupils to develop language through through small-group discussion, collaboration and creative thinking. Two additional independent writing tasks, linked to the theme of the unit, provide structured opportunities for pupils to apply new vocabulary in meaningful written contexts.

These resources ssupport oral language development, vocabulary growth, comprehension, and writing skills, while remaining easy to incorporate into short literacy blocks or small pockets of classroom time.
