BEN’s Horizons Programme invites students on a rich Vocabulary Voyage; an experiential learning journey that brings curriculum to life through hands-on expeditions and powerful storytelling.
Horizons supports the public primary school curriculum through carefully designed thematic units that integrate Social Studies, Bermuda history, ecosystems, agriculture and literacy. Each expedition is intentionally linked to a mentor text, using stories as a springboard for inquiry, discussion and deeper understanding.
The journey begins by selecting a thematic unit aligned with your year group, as outlined in the email you have received. Within each unit, you will find a series of mini-lessons and expeditions that connect real-world experiences with vocabulary development, oral language and curriculum learning.
At BEN, our mission is to bridge experiential learning and literacy, ensuring that students are not only doing and exploring, but also talking, thinking and using language to make meaning of their experiences.
Looking ahead to 2026, we are excited to introduce the Vocabulary Voyager Award as part of our Teacher Awards; celebrating educators who champion literacy through experiential learning.
