Big Adventures, Beautiful Books, Broader Vocabulary.

BEN’s Horizons Programme invites primary school students on a rich Vocabulary Voyage: an experiential learning journey that brings curriculum to life through hands-on expeditions and powerful storytelling.

Horizons supports the public primary school curriculum through carefully designed thematic units that integrate Social Studies, Bermuda history, ecosystems, agriculture and literacy. Each unit is anchored in a high-quality mentor text, using story as a springboard for exploration, discussion and deeper understanding.

The journey begins by selecting a thematic unit aligned with your year group. Within each unit you will find:

An expedition or outdoor experience at your school

Mini vocabulary and writing activities

A mentor text

Together, these elements connect real-world exploration with vocabulary development, oral language and curriculum learning.

Invitations to participate in expeditions are shared directly with grade-level teachers via SignUpGenius, typically two weeks in advance. Once places are confirmed, transport arrangements, including bus timetables, are provided to participating schools.

At BEN, our mission is to bridge experiential learning and literacy; ensuring that students not only explore and discover, but also think, communicate, and use language to make meaning of their experiences.
