Expedition Date: April

Location: BUEI (Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute)

Expedition Description: P3 Space & Magnet Mission: On Earth and Beyond & Magnetic Forces at BUEI!

During this interactive experience, students investigate how the Earth, Sun and Moon move, explore day and night and the phases of the Moon, and experiment with magnetism through engaging, hands-on activities. Through movement, investigation and collaborative challenges, pupils develop scientific understanding while building confidence using key vocabulary.

This curriculum-aligned expedition supports students to:

  • Understand that the Earth spins on its axis, causing day and night (3ESs.02)
  • Explore how the Earth, Sun, and Moon move in space (3ESs.02, 3ESs.03)
  • Investigate how the Moon orbits the Earth and why its appearance changes (3ESs.01)
  • Understand that gravity is a force that pulls objects toward the centre of the Earth (3Pf.02)
  • Explore how magnets attract and repel and identify magnetic and non-magnetic materials (3Pe.01, 3Pe.02, 3Pe.03)

This engaging experience combines science, movement and investigation, helping students think like scientists as they explore the forces and systems that shape our world and beyond.

Vocabulary Voyage

The P3 On Earth and Beyond thematic unit is built around the mentor text Moon! Earth’s Best Friend by Stacy McAnulty, supporting ELA curriculum-aligned literacy learning alongside an experiential school visit with AgraLiving as part of the Horizons Programme.

The Vocabulary Voyage offers a set of optional resources designed to enrich language learning in an engaging and practical way. Three short, flexible vocabulary activities encourage pupils to develop language through through small-group discussion, collaboration and creative thinking. Two additional independent writing tasks, linked to the theme of the unit, provide structured opportunities for pupils to apply new vocabulary in meaningful written contexts.

These resources ssupport oral language development, vocabulary growth, comprehension, and writing skills, while remaining easy to incorporate into short literacy blocks or small pockets of classroom time.
