Outdoor School Visit: April
Location: At your school
Expedition Description: The Great Garden-to-Gut Experience! Nutrition & Digestion Adventure with AgraLiving at Your School
Get ready, P5 scientists! Join BEN and AgraLiving for a hands-on outdoor adventure exploring how food fuels our bodies and connects back to the Earth. Students follow the journey of food from soil → plants → our bodies → back to the soil again. Through sensory exploration, cooking, movement and real-world science, pupils discover how a balanced diet supports health, how the digestive system works, and how composting returns nutrients to the soil. Along the way, students will harvest ingredients and make their own fresh pesto; bringing their learning to life through food!
Students will:
- Explore foods that make up a healthy, balanced diet
- Investigate how nutrients move from soil to plants to humans
- Act out and understand the human digestive system
- Discover how decomposers and composting recycle nutrients
- Work collaboratively to prepare and taste fresh pesto

Vocabulary Voyage
The P5 Nutrition and Digestion thematic unit is built around the mentor text Fresh Juice by Robert Liu-Trujillo, supporting ELA curriculum-aligned literacy learning alongside an experiential school visit with AgraLiving as part of the Horizons Programme.
The Vocabulary Voyage offers a set of optional resources designed to enrich language learning in an engaging and practical way. Three short, flexible vocabulary activities encourage pupils to develop language through through small-group discussion, collaboration and creative thinking. Two additional independent writing tasks, linked to the theme of the unit, provide structured opportunities for pupils to apply new vocabulary in meaningful written contexts.
These resources ssupport oral language development, vocabulary growth, comprehension, and writing skills, while remaining easy to incorporate into short literacy blocks or small pockets of classroom time.
