Celebrating Hannover Re – Life & Health

Making a world of difference at Northlands Primary School

BEN salutes the team at Hannover Re – Life & Health for being amazing champions for Northlands primary school in Pembroke.  Their Corporate Giving has an education focus and back in 2017 we suggested that they might consider “adopting” Northlands, whose dynamic principal, Charles Joynes was working closely with BEN on math and reading initiatives for students and professional development for his teachers.

We introduced Mr. Joynes to Hannover’s Re – Life & Health’s CEO Chantal Cardinez and their Office Manager, Lizzie Gibbons and they formed a partnership that over the past four years has led to numerous benefits for Northlands students including scholarships for BEN’s experiential learning programs. The team have also worked directly with Mr. Joynes and Guidance counsellor Barbara Hollis to respond to requests for school supplies and renovation projects.  An early project was to install playground awnings and Hannover Re – Life & Health staff painted a beautiful mural designed by Chewstick.

During the increasingly difficult circumstances of 2020, Hannover Re – Life & Health and BEN increased their support for Northlands families.  During Spring, BEN worked with the Northlands PTA to identify students who were unable to access online learning during the school closures because their family did not have a computer in the home.   Hannover Re – Life & Health exceeded all expectations and purchased chrome books for 44 Northlands pupils! They also provided Back to School shoe and uniform vouchers to families and their total donations to Northlands this year exceed $35,000.

Sadly, Charles Joynes passed away this summer after a long illness.  We are all deeply saddened by his loss and extend our sympathy to his family, colleagues and friends.  Thank you Hannover Re – Life & Health for teaming up with BEN and the PTA to support new principal, Linda Holdipp and the Northlands team.
